has named Louis M. Alterman Chief Financial Officer, with interim CFO Matt Bates taking the newly created role of Chief Transformation Officer, the company announced Thursday.
As Rackspace CFO, Alterman is responsible for shaping the company’s financial and investment strategies to accelerate growth and profitability. He most recently served as the CFO of EarthLink until it merged with Windstream in a $1.1 billion deal announced in November. He has a range of corporate finance experience including public and private equity and debt markets, strategic investments, acquisitions, divestitures and mergers, according to the announcement. Alterman has held roles in domestic and international strategy and operations, both corporate and customer-facing.
“Louis is one of the best business athletes I’ve had the good fortune to work with during my 30-year career,” Rackspace CEO Joe Eazor said in a statement. “He excels as a leader not only in finance but also in strategy, operations, M&A and sales. During our three years together at EarthLink, Louis took the initiative to meet frequently with key customers and prospects. He helped our sales teams close deals and refine our operational metrics and processes.”

As Chief Transformation Officer, Bates will be tasked with scaling Rackspace’s “Fanatical Support.”
The extensive executive shuffle at Rackspace includes the appointment of in June, and of Eazor as CEO in late May. The company also with the closing of its acquisition of TriCore Solutions in June.
